Forrest's Game Winner Leads Spartans On Senior Day

RUTLAND, Vt. – Jocelyn Forrest's overtime game-winner on Senior Day helped propel the Castleton University women's ice hockey team to a 3-2 victory over the Plymouth State Panthers at Spartan Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Castleton improves to 5-12-3 as well as 5-4-2 in the New England Hockey Conference, while Plymouth State falls to 3-12-3 and 2-5-3 in league play.

For the second straight night, Castleton went to extra time as the two sides ended regulation tied at 2-2. Just over two minutes into the overtime period, Forrest cut from the right circle toward the puck and slapped it past the Panthers' goalie. Cycling the puck in the offensive zone, Aimee Briand found Courtney Gauthier on the opposite side of the goal who sent it to the surging Forrest.

Earlier in the contest with the score knotted at 1-1, Forrest scored her first tally of the afternoon to put Castleton ahead. Again setting up in the offensive zone on a powerplay, Jade Remillard and Gauthier cycled before Forrest completed the drive. The two scores were her 10th and 11th of the 2018-19 campaign.

Heading into the waning minutes of the first period, Plymouth State got on the board as Sydney Linnick found Alie Louie just inside the blue line on the far side. Louie immediately slapped a shot toward goal that slipped between several sticks and past the Spartan netminder.

Answering the call and tying the game for the first time, Ryanne Mix notched her first career goal as she ripped the puck off passes from Remillard and Gauthier with 3:45 gone in the second.

After Castleton staked a 2-1 advantage through two, Hannah Bradshaw and Brooke Maggy combined to score the equalizer with just over 10 minutes remaining.

Rylie Wills earned her third win of the year as she sent aside 23 shots in 62:15 of playing time, saving to the tune of .920 save percentage.

Exploding on the powerplay, Castleton netted three extra-man goals in four chances. Meanwhile, in the faceoff battle, the Spartans earned wins in 31 of 56 opportunities led by Aimee Briand's 20 wins.

Women's ice hockey returns to action at 4 p.m. on Friday as they travel to UMass Boston in NEHC action.
