MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Jocelyn Forrest of the Castleton University women's ice hockey team was named New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 11. Earning her first award recognition, Forrest was named to the NEHC Honor Roll last week after netting her first career hat-trick.
Forrest scored three goals in two games this weekend as Castleton skated to a 1-0-1 record and earned three conference points.
On Friday, in Castleton's 3-3 overtime draw with Plymouth State, Forrest was able to jumpstart a stalling Spartan offense. Trailing 2-0 after one period of play, the senior forward collected the puck at the far point before weaving her way through the defense. In a one-on-one situation with the goaltender, Forrest held on to the puck until the last second before flicking it past the goalie's right shoulder.
Cleaning up the rebound, Forrest notched the game-tying goal early on in the third period. On the right of the goal, fought through traffic to put herself in the perfect spot to stuff the loose puck back, making it 2-2.
During the Spartan's 3-1 win on Saturday against Southern Maine, Forrest put in the go-ahead score just 15 seconds into the middle stanza. Once again on clean-up duty, the Prince George, B.C. native put back her teammate's initial shot as Castleton took the 1-0 lead and did not look back.
Women's ice hockey returns to action as it heads on the road to Kreitzberg Arena to face defending national champion and No. 3/4 Norwich at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
