RUTLAND, Vt. – Following a tremendously successful Pink the Rink event in January, the Castleton University women's ice hockey team - joined by Castleton University President Dr. Karen Scolforo and the Associate Dean for Athletics and Recreation Deanna Tyson - presented the staff at the Rutland Regional Medical Center's Foley Cancer Center with a check for the money raised on Monday afternoon.
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the event on Jan. 26, Castleton earned a 2-1 victory over conference foe Salve Regina. More importantly, the team led by first-year head coach Ashley Salerno raised $5,716.74 toward breast cancer awareness and research.
Through the sale of its limited edition pink jerseys, raffle tickets, 10-year anniversary pink cowbells and various fundraising, the Spartans were able to make it one of the more successful events in history. Over the past decade, Castleton has raised more than $55,000 for this special cause.
Returning 17 players for the 2018-19 season, Castleton will look to continue to leave a greater impact on the local communities through another successful Pink the Rink event.
