MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Alexis Kalm of the Castleton University women's ice hockey team has been named New England Hockey Conference Goalie of the Week for the week ending Feb. 4. It is the fourth time during the 2017-18 season that Kalm has earned the honor.
Recording back-to-back shutouts for the second time this season, Kalm led the Spartans to a pair of key NEHC victories over the weekend. Starting with a 2-0 win at New England College, the Aberdeen, N.C. native made 19 saves. Backing it up the next day, Kalm stopped all 28 shots she faced against an aggressive Plymouth State squad.
Kalm continued to give off the aura of confidence she has had since the calendar flipped from 2017. In 10 appearances between the pipes since the start of the year, the sophomore netminder has gone 6-2, while holding opponents to a 1.38 goals-against-average. Including the saves against Plymouth State, Kalm has now saved 232 of the past 244 shots she has faced, which is good for a .951 save percentage.
Castleton will host New England College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Spartan Arena in another crucial conference contest.
The teams, which faced off just three days ago, will be playing a makeup contest originally scheduled for mid-November. In their matchup on Friday, the Spartans used a couple of goals to knock off the host Pilgrims.
On Saturday, New England College lost a 10-1 game at No. 1/2 Norwich University. Point-leader Vicki Shaw scored the squad's only goal and will lead the team into Rutland against a familiar Castleton team.
Following Tuesday's contest, the Spartans will head into the final weekend of the regular season with a pair of matchups against teams – the University of New England and the University of Southern Maine – currently right behind them in the league standings.
