CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University women's ice hockey program has once again teamed up with the Rutland Regional Medical Center for the 10th consecutive year to raise awareness and funding for breast cancer research with the annual "Pink the Rink" event to be held on Friday, January 26.
The event will take place when the Spartans host conference-rival Salve Regina at Spartan Arena on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. Throughout the rich history of the event, Castleton has helped raise well over $50,000 and looks to continue playing its part in the battle against cancer.
Castleton will gear up for the game wearing a special collectors'-edition pink jerseys, which is currently being sold via an online auction and can be found at the link below. The auction began on January 1 and will run through January 25 at 9 p.m., with all proceeds going to the Foley Cancer Centers' Breast Cancer Program at RRMC. Fans have the opportunity to bid on the game-worn jerseys or purchase a jersey outright for $250. Click the link below to begin the process now.
In addition to the jersey auction, the RRMC will be raffling off a variety of items at the game with all proceeds going to the Foley Cancer Center. These items include a Pink the Rink jersey, which will be customized to feature the winners' name on the back. Vermont Teddy Bear will also provide a limited-edition pink teddy bear. Five dollar raffle tickets for the items will be sold at the hospital, at Castleton University as well as at the Spartans 7 p.m. home contest against No. 8/9 Connecticut College on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
Prior to the Pink the Rink contest against Salve Regina, the RRMC will be giving out pink cowbells to the first 150 fans to enter Spartan Arena. There will also be another 50 bells for purchase. Aside from the Castleton Spartans logo, the cowbell will also have a 10-year anniversary/Foley Cancer Center logo on it.
