CASTLETON, Vt. – For the second year in a row, Castleton softball's Kayla Wood has been selected as a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team for District 1.
Wood, a senior pitcher for the Spartans, will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. To be eligible for the squad, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution.
Wood enjoyed a phenomenal season for Castleton, winning seven games and striking out 67 batters in 80.0 innings of work. The senior was named NAC and ECAC Pitcher of the Week once each this season, with her top performance coming against Husson in a key conference series. She struck out 15 batters in a two-hit shutout, and carried a perfect game into the fifth inning of the contest. Her 16 walks this season were the fewest she allowed in a single season in her career, and she ranked among the conference leaders in ERA, games started, wins, strikeouts, shutouts, batting average against, and strikeouts per seven innings.
Wood is the only player from the North Atlantic Conference to land on the team, and the only player from Vermont college to make the All-District Team as well. To view the complete list of All-District honorees, click here.
