CASTLETON, Vt. – After finishing the North Atlantic Conference regular season with a 10-2 record, the Castleton softball team has earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NAC Championship Tournament.
The four-team, double-elimination tournament will be hosted at Husson University, in Bangor, Maine, after the Eagles grabbed the top spot in the conference with an 11-1 record. Thomas College earned the No. 3 seed with a 7-5 record in NAC play, while New England College rounds out the field with a 6-6 record.
The tournament will begin with four games on Friday, May 5. Top-seeded Husson will host fourth-seeded New England College at 10 a.m. in game 1, while the second-seeded Spartans will take on third-seeded Thomas at noon in game 2. The losers of game 1 and game 2 will play in game 3 at 2 p.m. with the loser exiting the tournament. Game 4 will be played between the winners of game 1 and game 2 at 4 p.m.
Tournament action will continue onto Saturday, as the winner of game 3 will take on the loser of game 4 at noon. Then, at 2 p.m., the winners of game 4 and game 5 will square off. If the undefeated team (winner of game 4) wins, they earn the championship title, but if they are beaten, the tournament will continue onto Sunday with game 7 at 1 p.m.
The NAC tournament champion will earn an automatic bid into the upcoming 2017 NCAA Division III Softball Championship. To view the complete NAC release click here.
