CASTLETON, Vt. – After helping the Spartans to a doubleheader split to open conference play on Saturday, Castleton softball juniors Timi Carone and Taylor Paquette were honored as the North Atlantic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, as announced on Monday afternoon.
Carone continued her stellar season this week, helping Castleton play New England College to a doubleheader split to open the conference schedule. The junior posted a .500 batting average, going 4-for-8 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. In a close, 6-5 loss in game one, Carone was 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot with two runs and an RBI. She also tacked on a stolen base in the contest. In a 6-4 win in game two, Carone scored once again and was 1-for-4 at the plate. She had an RBI triple in the fifth inning that put the Spartans ahead for the time being, eventually helping them to a key victory. Carone was also perfect in the field, converting on all six defensive opportunities without making an error between the outfield and catching.
Paquette continued her stellar season for the Spartans this week, winning her fifth consecutive decision to open the season after tossing 9.0 innings over two games and allowing just three runs against New England College. Paquette worked two hitless and scoreless innings of relief in a 6-5 loss in the opening game of the day, before turning around and going the distance in a 6-5 win in game two. She allowed just eight hits and one walk while striking out two batters, giving her a total of a 2.33 ERA for the week. After six appearances this season, Paquette's ERA sits at 1.60, good for third-best in the conference.
