CASTLETON, Vt. – After helping her team to a 4-2 record to open the season, Castleton softball freshman Kayley Fountain was named the North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced on Monday afternoon.
It was a week of firsts for Fountain, as she had her first hit and run in a season-opening 3-2 win over Wilmington (Ohio), and drove in her first run in an 8-2 win against Curry. She then continued her strong play by recording her first multi-hit game against Marian (Wisc.), before tallying her second-straight multi-hit game against UW-Superior. None of her hits were bigger than her last hit against UW-Superior, as it was a walk-off winner to give Castleton a 3-2 victory in eight innings. In all, Fountain led the squad with a .333 batting average, .364 on-base percentage and .381 slugging percentage. Her seven hits were also a team high, and she was one of just two Spartans to have a hit in five of the team's six games on the trip.
This is the first time that Fountain has won the award, and she is the first Spartan to be honored this season. To view the full NAC release, click here.
