Men's Cross Country Uses Strong Outing to Place Fifth at LEC Championship

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Castleton University men's cross country team competed in the Little East Conference (LEC) Championship Saturday morning on the campus of UMass Dartmouth. With a strong showing from their top runners, the Spartans notched out a fifth-place finish.

Junior Gannon McKearin finished well as he crossed the finish line in 12th place out of 86 runners with a time of 26:16.19 (5:17 mile time). Senior Jared Wheeler, competing in his last LEC Championship race, finished in 21st place with a time of 26:58.56 (5:25 mile time).

Rounding out the scoring for the Spartans was Levi Williams (53rd – 28:51.44), Dylan Lupien (58th – 29:30.09), Oliver Rodgers (64th – 29:45.87), Brandon Ryan (30:18.84), Joe Ouimet (76th – 31:54.56), Jacob Peet (82nd – 34:26.68), and Chris Wentzel (85th – 39:05.56).

Southern Maine took home the team title with a score of 37 points. UMass Dartmouth (47 points), Plymouth State (75 points), Eastern Connecticut State (77 points), and Castleton (154 points) rounded out the top five in team scoring.  

Men's cross country returns to action on Saturday, November 16 as it competes in the NCAA Division III Regional Championships in Brunswick, Maine.
