SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Castleton University men's cross country team competed in the Western New England Invitational Saturday morning. With a strong showing from junior Gannon McKearin and senior Jared Wheeler, the team was able to earn a top 10 finish at the event.
McKearin was the first Spartan to cross the finish line as he earned a time of 26:39 (5:22 mile time) to finish in eighth place out of 182 runners.
Wheeler would cross right behind him as he finished in 25th place with a time of 27:33 (5:33 mile time).
Rounding out the scoring for the Spartans was Levi Williams (101st – 30:33), Oliver Rodgers (109th – 30:54), Brandon Ryan (113th – 31:06), Joe Ouimet (137th – 33:31), Jacob Peet (150th – 34:42), and Chris Wentzel (165th – 37:23).
Bridgewater State took home the team title with 64 points. University of New England (74 points), Worcester State (94 points), Westfield State (104 points), and Nichols (151 points would round out the top five.
The Spartans earned 259 points to finish in 10th place out of 15 teams.
Men's cross country will return to action Saturday, November 2 as it competes in the Little East Conference Championship in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
