McKearin Paces the Way as Men's Cross Country Finishes Second at Castleton Invitational

CASTLETON, Vt. -- In the first of two meets on the campus of Castleton University, the Castleton men's cross country team placed second overall in today's Castleton Invitational. 

Junior Gannon McKearin paced the way for the Spartans as he placed second with a time of 27:33 (5:33 mile time). McKearin finished two tenths of a second behind freshman Torey Vater of New England College who finished first. His time earlier today broke his time of 27:49 at this event during the 2018 season. 

Following right behind McKearin, senior Jared Wheeler finished in fourth place with a time of 28:05 (5:39 mile time). Freshman Dylan Lupien, who was the third Spartan to finish in the top 10 in today's meet, finished sixth with a time of 31:22 (6:19 mile time). 

Rounding out the scoring for the Spartans was Brandon Ryan (11th – 33:39), Jacob Peet (14th – 37:54), Joe Ouimet (16th – 38:08), and Chris Wentzel (19th – 41:18).

Bard College took home first place as six of its runners finished in the top 10. Castleton totaled 31 points to finish right behind in second place.

The Spartans will return to action next Saturday, September 21 when they compete in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, with the men's race set to begin at 11:15 a.m.
