Men's Cross Country Finishes Second at Green Mountain College Invitational

POULTNEY, Vt. – The Castleton University men's cross country team used three top-10 finishes to place second at the Green Mountain College Men's Invitational on Saturday.

St. Joseph's claimed the team victory with 44 points. Castleton finished just two points shy of the Fighting Saints but finished four points better than third-place Cobleskill.  

Gannon McKearin finished second in the eight-kilometer race with a time of 27:46.

Jared Wheeler (28:10) finished sixth after crossing second in a group of six that all crossed the finish line with 13 seconds. Meanwhile, freshman Avery Barrino was fifth in that cluster to place ninth overall with a time of 28:17 to set a career-best by shaving nearly a minute and a half off his previous best. 

Levi Williams was 11th in 28:56, while Oliver Rodgers placed 21st (30:39) to round out the Spartan scoring.

MCLA (132 points), Maine Maritime (136 points), Green Mountain (149) and NVU-Johnson (179) rounded out the team scoring.
