Men's Cross Country Performs Well at UMass-Dartmouth Invitational

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Castleton University men's cross country team competed in the eight-kilometer UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on a humid Saturday afternoon.

Battling the heat throughout the race, Grandon Smith came away with his best 8K time of the year. Smith led Castleton with an impressive ninth-place finish out of 315 runners across Divisions I, II, and III, clocking in at 25:41.82, less than 20 seconds away from the leader. The senior topped last week's first-place time by 48 seconds.

Freshman Gannon McKearin crossed the line next for Castleton, finishing with a time of 28:04.72, just ahead of teammate Jared Wheeler, who finished with a time of 28:21.75 to place third on the squad.

Oliver Rodgers and Carter Kline also contributed to the scoring for Castleton with respective times of 32:36.38 and 34:08.69. Jacob Peet raced to a time of 40:45.53 for the Spartans.

Castleton will have a week off before returning to action Saturday, Sept. 30, for the Vermont State Meet at Middlebury College 1:30 p.m.
