CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton men's cross country team gets back on the course tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Johnson for the Vermont State Meet.
The last time the Spartans were in action, they finished 20th overall at the Williams Purple Valley Classic, which featured a field packed with top-ranked teams in the country.
Grandon Smith has been the top Castleton performer this season, finishing first on the team in each of the first four races. His highest finish came at the Castleton Invitational when he placed third overall. Jonah Lavigne grabbed his first team second-place finish of the season last weekend at the Purple Valley Classic with a time of 29:20.
Ben Girard finished third for Castleton at Williams, crossing with a time of 29:42, while Alex Lauzon was right on his heels at 29:49. Patrick Gilligan rounded out the Spartan top five with a time of 30:57.
At last year's Vermont State Meet, Castleton collected a fifth place finish. Jonah Lavigne was the top finisher, pacing the Spartans with a time of 29:57. Ben Girard crossed second for the Spartans with a time of 30:20.
