Men's Cross Country Heads to Williams for Purple Valley Classic

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton men's cross country team will travel to Williamstown, Mass. for the Williams Purple Valley Classic on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans enter the meet coming off of a 27th place finish at the UMass.-Dartmouth Invitational a week ago.

Grandon Smith has been the top Spartan finisher in each of the first three races, including a season-best time of 27:54 in last week's event. Ben Girard has placed second for Castleton in each race on the year, while Jonah Lavigne has crossed the line third each time. Alex Lauzon and Patrick Gilligan have rounded out the Spartan top five in each race.

Other runners for Castleton include Jake Looman, who has finished sixth in all three races for the team, and Kyle Rainville, who has recorded three consecutive seventh place finishes for the Spartans.

The Purple Valley Classic features seven nationally ranked teams including Amherst (No. 3), Williams (No. 8) and Middlebury (No. 26).
