FITCHBURG, Mass. –Freshman Nate Gilcris out-jumped his own program record in the high jump and earned a third (second LEC) place finish at Castleton men's track & field's inaugural New England Alliance/Little East Conference Championships at Fitchburg state on Saturday.
Gilcris achieved a height of 1.95 meters (6'4.75") in the long jump to lead the Spartan squad, who finished with 13 points. Southern Maine won the LEC title with 169 points. They were followed by UMass Dartmouth (122), Eastern Connecticut State (93), Plymouth State (83), Keene State (62), Rhode Island College (52), and UMass Boston (45).
Gilcris was also 17th in the long jump at 5.86 meters (19'2.75"), where Laurence Romain was 20th (5.25 meters, 17'2.75").
Tayler Larmie placed sixth (fourth LEC) in the hammer throw with a throw of 46.41 meters (152'3"). Caleb Davidson was 18th in the discus at 31.55 meters (103'6") while Clayton Bailey was 11th in the javelin (43.38 meters, 142'4").
Gilcris and Larmie are the Spartan representatives who qualified for the Division III New England Regional Championships in the hammer. Williams College will host the event May 3-4.
