Larmie, Talbot Win Events at Wesleyan Spring Classic

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Tayler Larmie and Brodie Talbot claimed top finishes in two throwing events to lead the Castleton men's track and field team in its season opener Saturday at the Wesleyan Spring Classic. 

In a non-scoring event that was moved indoors due to inclement weather, Larmie earned a first-place finish in the weight throw with a launch of 13.81 meters, securing the top spot over Talbot's second-place throw of 13.64 meters. 

Talbot won the shot put with a heave of 12.31 meters, narrowly eclipsing teammate Morgan Rainville's second-place distance of 12.21 meters. Larmie took third place with a throw of 12.08 meters as the Spartans swept the top three in the event. Clayton Bailey earned a 10th place finish with a heave of 10.39 meters.

Ryan Barry recorded a strong finish in the 100-meter dash as he crossed the line in third with a time of 11.98 seconds. Nick Reca checked in at 12.17 seconds to place eighth, just ahead of teammate Gavin Harpin (12.24s) in 10th. Canute Watson and Vytas Nielsen finished consecutively in 17th and 18th with respective times of 12.84 and 12.85 seconds. Barry also led the way for the Spartans in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.38 seconds to place seventh.

Austin Beauregard took second place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.97 seconds. Beauregard also paced the Spartans in the long jump after covering a distance of 5.67 meters for a new personal best.

Caleb Lisai led the way for Castleton in the high jump with a new personal-best height of 1.68 meters to place fifth overall. 

Castleton returns to action on Friday, March 30, for the Warrior Invitational at Eastern Connecticut State University.
