Larmie Wins Weight Throw to Highlight Spartans At Smith Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. –  Tayler Larmie took first place overall in the weight throw and four new school records were set as the Castleton men's track and field team opened its season with a strong performance Saturday in the Smith College Invitational.

Larmie shined in the throwing events, capturing first place with a distance of 13.22 meters in the weight throw. Brodie Talbot (11.43m) and Caleb Davidson (10.71m) finished second and third, respectively, as the Spartans secured the top three spots out of 11 competitors in the event. Clayton Bailey took sixth with a throw of 9.74 meters and Morgan Rainville placed eighth at 9.22 meters.  

Rainville highlighted the Spartans in the shot put, delivering a 12.89-meter heave to set a new school record and place second overall. Larmie reached 12.26 meters to place sixth, just ahead of Davidson in seventh with a distance of 11.54 meters. Talbot (11.30m) and Jackson Dwyer (11.02m) placed eighth and ninth, respectively for the Spartans.

Ryan Barry was strong in the sprints, placing third overall in the 60-meter dash finals with a new school-record time of 7.30 seconds. Zak Pollicino and Canute Watson earned respective times of 7.61 seconds and 7.81 seconds. Barry claimed fifth in the 200-meter dash coming in at 24.16. 

Freshman David Harvey set two new school records to lead the Spartans in the jumping pits. He covered 5.70 meters in the long jump to place fourth overall and placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 12.11 meters. Harvey also competed in the 60-meter hurdles and clocked in at 9.41 seconds.

The Spartans return to action Saturday, Dec. 9, to compete in the Rhode Island College Invitational.
