CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton men's tennis team bounced back from a weekend loss to defeat Green Mountain College, 9-0, in a North Atlantic Conference matchup of Tuesday evening at the Spartan Tennis Courts.
Castleton improves its record to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the NAC, while Green Mountain drops to 4-3 on the year with a 1-1 mark in league play.
The Spartans opened the day with a sweep of doubles, as Seth Marcil and Quentin Barthe teamed up for their 10th doubles win of the season, 8-4, in a victory over Truman Cressey and Kei Sako. Jared Wheeler and Tyler Wilcox were victorious, 8-2, in second-flight doubles, while Ryan Mulder and Brody Wagner picked up a win at No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
Castleton continued rolling in singles play, as all six players won in straight sets. Marcil took No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-0, while Barthe cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Mulder took the third flight, 6-1, 6-0, while Wheeler picked up a tough win at the No. 4 position, 6-3, 6-4, over Javier Lugris. Wilcox picked up a clean sweep, 6-0, 6-0, in fifth-flight singles, while Wagner rounded out the day with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the sixth position.
Castleton hosts Colby-Sawyer on Saturday at 1 p.m. to finish the regular season.
