RUTLAND, Vt. – The Castleton men's tennis team extended its winning streak to four games on Wednesday evening, defeating MCLA by a final score of 9-0 in a North Atlantic Conference East Division contest at the Grand Slam Tennis Center.
The Spartans picked up their fourth consecutive 9-0 victory on the day, moving their record to 3-0 in conference play and 8-1 on the season. MCLA falls to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the NAC East.
Seth Marcil and Quentin Barthe faced a tough test at the top doubles position, but battled their way to an 8-5 win over Aaron Goldsmith and Robert Wabshinak. Ryan Mulder and Trevor Hanna were victorious, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles, while Brody Wagner and Jared Wheeler defeated their opponents, 8-3, at third-flight doubles.
Marcil carried his doubles momentum into singles play, downing Goldsmith 6-3, 3-6, 11-9 in three sets. Barthe faced a tough test in Wabishnak, but handled him in two sets, 6-3, 6-2, at the second singles position. Mulder made quick work of his opponent in the No. 3 singles spot, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
Hanna was victorious at fourth-flight singles, 6-2, 6-3, and Wagner came out on top, 6-0, 6-0, in the fifth singles position. Tyler Wilcox rounded out the day with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 6 singles spot.
Castleton hosts Thomas on Saturday at noon in its next action.
