CASTLETON, Vt. – Following a convincing victory over Green Mountain on Saturday, Castleton men's tennis players Seth Marcil and Jared Wheeler have been honored by the North Atlantic Conference as Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced on Monday afternoon.
Marcil had an impressive week for the Spartans, dropping just one point throughout an entire match against Green Mountain. The senior led the way in an 8-1 win in doubles action against the Eagles' top duo, before earning a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 1 flight. Marcil moves to 2-1 in singles and 3-0 in doubles this season with the victories.
Wheeler continued his strong play early in the season for Castleton, picking up a pair of wins as the Spartans swept Green Mountain. The rookie started out the day with an 8-0 victory in No. 2 doubles action with partner Tyler Wilcox, before cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 win over the Eagles' No. 4 singles player. The wins were the first official victories of Wheeler's career, coming in impressive fashion as he dropped just two points in total on the day.
