CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton men's tennis team looks to keep its early streak rolling on Saturday, going for its third win in a row as it hosts Green Mountain at the Grand Slam Tennis Center in Rutland.
The Spartans are 2-0 on the season after wins over Norwich and Lyndon, both of which were home matches. Castleton opened the season with a 5-4 win over the Cadets, before rolling to an 8-1 win over Lyndon in the second match.
Quentin Barthe is unbeaten thus far, boasting a 2-0 mark in both singles and doubles action. The senior has been on the No. 1 doubles pairing, while playing singles in the No. 2 position. Trevor Hanna and Ryan Mulder have teamed up for a 2-0 mark in doubles, and each of the two are unbeaten in singles action as well.
Seth Marcil is 2-0 in top-flight singles action with Barthe, and has played to a 1-1 mark in singles play at the top spot. Tyler Wilcox and Jared Wheeler claimed a win in third-flight doubles last time out following a tiebreak loss in the season-opener against Norwich.
Green Mountain opens its season on Saturday, looking to build after a 5-7 campaign a season ago. Castleton was victorious both times in head-to-head matchups last season, winning 7-2 and 8-1.
Truman Cressey and Eric Wade return for Green Mountain, with Cressey posting a 6-6 mark in No. 2 singles a season ago. Wade was 3-8 overall last season, with a 2-4 mark in No. 5 singles action. Cressey was part of a tandem that went 7-5 at the top doubles position in 2016, while Wade combined to go 3-7 in doubles play.
The Eagles come into the match with six players that did not see action in 2016.
