CASTLETON, Vt. – Senior Jack Kingdon scored both goals and Alex Fernald recorded his first shutout of the season for the Castleton men's soccer team in a 2-0 victory over Sage in non-conference action on Wednesday.
Shortly after a Kingdon shot was ruled to not have crossed the goal line on a borderline play in the 72nd minute, he made no mistake in scoring just 18 seconds later off a feed from Rida Kori.
Then, he netted his 14th goal of the season on a free kick from 28 yards just under the bar in the final minute of play to seal the win. The pair of goals puts him in sole possession of second place in Little East Conference (LEC).
Castleton improves to 5-11-0 with the win while Sage drops to 7-7-0.
The Spartans edged the Gators in shots with a narrow 19-17 advantage, but had nine corners compared to three for Sage.
Fernald made seven saves to earn his first shutout of the season, including an impressive save in the 35th minute to keep the contest scoreless. For Sage, Lucas Bourdeau turned aside seven shots.
Men's soccer will return to action on Saturday as it hosts Plymouth State for Senior Day at 4 p.m.
