Spartans Travel to Norwich for Tuesday Night Matchup

CASTLETON, Vt. – Coming off a 2-0 week with a pair of conference victories against Green Mountain and Lyndon, the Castleton men's soccer team (3-5-1) will look to continue its momentum when it travels to Norwich (3-3-2) Tuesday for a non-conference matchup against the Cadets at 7 p.m. at Sabine Field.

After suffering three straight losses, the Spartans have rebounded by going unbeaten in their last three games, including two wins and a tie against conference foes. Over the three-game span, Castleton has outscored its opponents 11-1.

Seraphin Iradukunda leads the offensive squad with 10 points on four goals and two assists. Jack Kingdon and Abinash Rai each have six points, while Colby Gay and Fidele Rutayisire have each tallied five points on two goals and an assist thus far. Nine different players have registered a goal on the season, contributing to an offensive attack that averages 18.3 shots/game and 1.89 goals/game.

Senior goalkeeper Aaron Parker anchors a defensive unit allowing 1.72 goals/game with 43 saves on the year. Parker has recorded a .723 save percentage with one shutout en route to his 3-5-1 record this season. He has not allowed a goal in his last two starts while totaling six saves over that span to help his team pick up two conference wins.

Norwich is coming off a 0-0, double-overtime draw against Emmanuel last Friday. The Cadets have been held off the scoreboard in two of their last three matches, with a 3-1 win against Anna Maria in between. 

The Cadets are averaging 16.3 shots/game and 1.25 goals/game on offense. Camilo Estrada leads the team with seven points on two goals and three assists. Carlos Guerra has taken a team-high 25 shots and is second on the team with five points on a goal and three assists, while Staige Davis and Luke Gleadle each have four points on a pair of goals.

Brendan Germano has started every game in goal this season and holds a 1.18 goals-against average in 760 minutes. Germano has made 29 saves and allowed 10 goals to register a .744 save percentage thus far this season.

The intrastate rivals faced each other last season, with Norwich earning the 3-2 victory at Spartan Stadium.
