CRAFTSBURY, Vt. – The Castleton University men's nordic ski team competed in the opening two days of the United States Cross-Country Ski Championships presented by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center on Thursday and Friday.
During day one, Andrew Doherty and John Henry Paluszek, who competed as part of a field of over 300 racers, represented the Spartans in the 15K Classic. Doherty placed in the top half of competitors and ranked 32nd in his age group as he crossed the finish line in a time of 48:52.1.
Meanwhile, Paluszek finished the three-lap race just seven places behind his teammate in 158th place with a time of 49:09.2. He ranked 71st in his age group.
On Friday, Paluszek took to the course to compete in the Classic Sprint and turned in another solid performance. Placing just outside the top 100 – out of more than 270 racers – Paluszek clocked a 3:41.46 on the 1600-meter course, consisting of one lap.
Doherty and Paluszek will return to action as the U.S. Cross-Country Ski Championships wind down on Sunday and Tuesday.
