LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Members of the Castleton University Nordic ski team began the program's second year of NCAA varsity competition Sunday, Dec. 11, by participating in the New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) Season Opener at Mt. Van Hoevenberg.
Megan Greene led the Castleton women, finishing seventh overall with a time of 35:35.9 over the 9.3-kilometer course. Emily Cromie finished in 17th place with a time of 41:37.1, followed by Hahnah Saroff in 18th place in 43:55.3.
In the men's 9.3-kilometer event, David Harvey crossed the finish line first among the Spartans, earning 18th place overall with a time of 31:51.9. Thomas Rizza also competed Sunday, posting a time of 41:44.3 to finish in 32nd place.
Castleton University will head to Gore Mountain in North Creek, N.Y., this Saturday, Dec. 17, for the Johnsburg Nordic Festival, where the Spartans will compete in the 10-kilometer Classical race.
