Cameron Russell Named to USILA DIII Team of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – One day after being named the Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Castleton University midfielder Cameron Russell was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)/Warrior and New Balance Division III Team of the Week.

The St. Albans, Vt., native, was instrumental in a pair of LEC wins for Castleton on the week, scoring the game-winning goal in each contest while racking up nine total scores in the two outings. In a 12-10 win last Wednesday at UMass.-Boston, Russell scored six goals, including the goal that made it 10-10 and the goal that made it 11-10 in favor of the Spartans. Last Saturday against Eastern Connecticut, the junior racked up another hat trick, scoring the game-winning goal in overtime after Castleton erased a four-goal deficit heading into the fourth quarter.

Russell is the first Little East Conference player to land on the USILA/Warrior and New Balance Division III Team of the Week this season, and is just the third player in Castleton program history to earn a weekly honor from the organization. Josh Gosselin earned National Team of the Week honors a season ago, while Zach Davidson was named the Division III North National Player of the Week in 2015.

Castleton hosts Keene State in an LEC showdown on Tuesday night at Dave Wolk Stadium. The opening face-off is set for 7 p.m.
