WATERVILLE, Maine – After leading the Castleton University men's lacrosse team offensively as the Spartans went 3-1 over the past week, sophomore Tyler Crowningshield has been named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
Crowningshield accumulated eight points in Castleton's three victories over Green Mountain, Husson, and Plymouth State. Last Wednesday against the Eagles, he scored two goals and dished out one assist, with both goals coming in the first period as the Spartans established a 6-0 lead on their way to the conference win.
Saturday at Husson, Crowningshield scored the first goal of the game with 4:15 remaining in the first period. Five minutes into the second period, he assisted on Castleton's second goal as the Spartans went on to defeat the Eagles, 8-6.
Just over 24 hours later, Crowningshield earned his second hat trick of the season and fourth of his collegiate career, scoring three times in the second half to lead Castleton past Plymouth State, 8-6. With the score tied at 4-4 in the third period, he found the back of the net twice in a span of 2:36 to give the Spartans the lead for good, and then he completed the hat trick in the fourth period as Castleton earned its sixth victory in seven games.
For the season, Crowningshield is tied for third on the team with 12 goals, including four multiple-goal games so far this year. This is Crowningshield's first career weekly award and the first time this season a Spartan has received the Player of the Week honor, as Brandon Myron has previously been named Defensive Player of the Week three times in 2018.
Castleton (6-5, 3-0 NAC) returns to conference play with a home game against the Lyndon Hornets Thursday, April 12, starting at 7 p.m. at Spartan Stadium.
