DANBURY, Conn. – The Castleton University men's lacrosse team continues to collect postseason honors, as senior midfielder Louis Alhage and junior faceoff specialist Joshua Gosselin have been named by the Eastern College Athletic Conference as members of the First Team All-ECAC North, announced Tuesday by the league office.
Alhage received First Team All-North Atlantic Conference (NAC) honors after leading the Spartans with 31 assists, plus he scored 18 goals to finish with 49 total points, second on the squad. He also finished second on the team with 51 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers during the 2017 season.
Alhage leaves Castleton second all-time in career assists with 88, fourth in career caused turnovers with 67, and tied for 12th in career points with 137, the only Spartan to rank in the top 15 in career points and in the top five in career caused turnovers. Earlier this month, Alhage received the Male Coaches Award from the Castleton athletics department, one of the highest honors a Spartan student-athlete can receive.
Gosselin, also a First Team All-NAC honoree, is 10th in the country in faceoff winning percentage at .696 and 26th in the nation in ground balls per game at 7.74 with just the NCAA Division III national championship game left to be played in 2017. The 147 ground balls Gosselin picked up this season are the fifth-most in a single year since 2003 and the most by any Spartan in six seasons.
Starting 18 of the team's 19 games this past season, Gosselin earned one goal and four assists, scoring his goal against Husson on April 8 and assisting on one goal each at Southern Maine (March 24), at Maine Maritime (March 25), versus Green Mountain (April 24), and in the NAC semifinal game against Lyndon State (May 3). Gosselin is fifth all-time in Castleton history in career ground balls with 253 and has won 68.4 percent (441-for-645) of the faceoffs he has taken as a Spartan.
