PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – St. Lawrence University received contributions from several players, as the sixth-ranked Saints defeated Castleton University, 18-3, Wednesday evening in a non-conference collegiate men's lacrosse neutral-site match held at Plattsburgh State's Field House Complex.
St. Lawrence (2-0) scored the first three goals of the match, with Jordan Dow scoring twice, before Isaac Devoid put Castleton on the board late in the first period off an assist by Louis Alhage. The Saints scored three more times in the opening period, with Conor Healy picking up his second goal of the match off an assist from Dow.
The Saints scored 11 unanswered goals spanning all four periods, not allowing a Castleton tally from 3:36 left in the first period to 2:49 remaining in the fourth period. Alhage broke the scoring drought with an unassisted goal, and Tyler Crowningshield converted on his scoring opportunity 15 seconds later.
St. Lawrence controlled the statistical comparison with more shots (42-22) and more faceoffs won (16-9), as well as converting 16-of-17 clearing attempts while Castleton went 13-for-18 on its clearing opportunities. Brandon Myron played the entire game in net for the Spartans, collecting nine saves.
Castleton (1-2) and Southern Maine have agreed to move their scheduled game from Saturday, March 11, to Sunday, March 12, with a 2 p.m. start time, as the forecast for Saturday calls for bitterly cold weather.
