Men’s Hockey Drops Back-End of Road Trip, 6-1, at UMass Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – The Castleton University men's hockey team fell to UMass Boston, 6-1, to conclude its Massachusetts road-trip on Saturday.

Sakke Tiitinen scored the goal for Castleton, the first of his career. Val Sverdlov and Dom Kuziak picked up the assists. It was the first point of the season for both of the forwards, and the first of Sverdlov's career.

For the Beacons, Stevie Bryant scored twice, while Tyler Sifferlen registered a goal and two assists. Zack Bross, Dakota Keene, and John Bonno picked up a goal each for the NEHC-leading UMass Boston squad. The win capped a 2-0 weekend after the Beacons knocked off nationally-ranked Norwich on Friday.

UMass Boston scored twice within the opening 2:08 of play. They stretched the lead to three at 7:02 when Keene scored.

Castleton got on the board at 8:16 when the fourth line converted leading to point number one of the campaign for all three skaters.

With 3:46 remaining in the middle period, UMass Boston scored again to take a 4-1 edge into the final 20 minutes.

In the third, UMass Boston scored a pair of even-strength goals to cap the scoring. All seven goals on the afternoon were scored 5-on-5. Castleton was 0-for-6 on the power play, while UMass Boston finished 0-for-5.

Wyatt Pickrell made 21 saves in 52:22 of action. Kyle Alaverdy played between the pipes in relief for Castleton and made three saves without allowing a goal over the final 7:38. Bailey MacBurnie stopped 20 shots to earn his fifth win in as many tries.

Castleton (0-3-2, 0-3-1 NEHC) will go back on the road Tuesday at Plymouth State before returning home Friday for a pair of non-conference matchups against SUNY Canton.
