Ryan Mulder Signs Professional Contract with Birmingham Bulls

CASTLETON, Vt. – Castleton University men's hockey senior goaltender Ryan Mulder has signed a professional contract to continue his playing career with the Birmingham Bulls of the Southern Professional Hockey League.

Mulder joins several former Spartans who have continued their playing careers professionally, most recently Bart Moran, who signed with the Skautafelag Akureyrar of the Icelandic Hockey League in 2017. Mulder will wear No. 31 for the Bulls.

Mulder, named co-captain prior to his senior season, rewrote the Spartan record books as a four-year starter between the pipes. The Ottawa, Ontario native ranks first all-time in saves (2,005), save percentage (.909), games played (79), and games started (75), and sits second all-time in wins with 31 victories. A 2014-15 ECAC East All-Rookie and two-time New England Hockey Conference All-Academic honoree, Mulder was selected as one of 11 nominees in the country for the 2018 Hockey Humanitarian Award, which recognizes players for their leadership and volunteerism on and off the ice.

Mulder was heroic in his final game wearing a Spartan uniform, recording 49 saves against defending national champion Norwich University in the quarterfinals of the NEHC playoffs.

The Birmingham Bulls are currently 20-22-5 and have eight regular-season games left in their inaugural season with the SPHL.
