NEHC Recognizes Kuziak as Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – After recording his first collegiate goal as part of a career-high three-point game at Southern Maine last Saturday, freshman Dom Kuziak of the Castleton men's hockey team has been named New England Hockey Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Kuziak was involved in three of Castleton's five goals in the victory. The freshman sparked the Spartans early on the power play after firing home a rebound for his first career goal. Caleb Fizer, who was also listed on the NEHC Weekly Honor Roll, sent a shot on net and Kuziak collected the rebound before turning and beating the Huskies' netminder with a low shot to give the Spartans a lead they never abandoned en route to the victory.

Kuziak added a pair of assists on late insurance goals to help Castleton pull away. Once again on the power play, the Spartans were cycling the puck well in the offensive zone, where Kuziak helped set up Fizer in the high slot for a one-timer goal to extend the Spartans lead to 3-1 in the second period. He later had a hand in the final goal of the afternoon to cap his three-point game.

This is the first career weekly award for Kuziak, who now has tallied nine points on the season and leads all freshmen with eight assists. To read the full NEHC weekly release, click here.

Castleton (7-13-3, 3-12-1 NEHC) is back action this weekend to close out its regular season with conference matchups against Skidmore and No. 12/11 Hobart on Friday and Saturday. The Spartans will recognize their nine seniors prior to Saturday's regular-season finale against the Statesmen.
