Wiswell Tabbed NEHC Rookie of the Week

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – After leading the Castleton men's hockey team with three points on the week, freshman Glenn Wiswell has been named New England Hockey Conference Rookie of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Wiswell potted Castleton's goal in a defeat at New England College on Friday, which at the time tied the game at 1-1 early in the second period. The freshman sparked the Spartans with an aggressive forecheck as he forced a turnover behind the Pilgrims' goal line to create the scoring chance, where he took full advantage with a one-timer from the right post.

The Berwick, Maine native followed that up with another strong performance at Southern Maine on Saturday, tallying a career-high two points on a goal and an assist. Wiswell handed out the primary assist on the game's first goal early in the first period after firing one of his game-high five shots on goal to set up teammate Mark Shroyer for a rebound goal. He continued his strong offensive weekend with the game-tying goal on the power play late in the game. Wiswell drilled home a one-timer from the top of the left circle with 7:15 left in regulation, bringing the Spartans back from a two-goal deficit to earn a point in a 3-3 draw. Wiswell finished the week with 12 shots on goal to lead the team.

This is the first career weekly honor for Wiswell, who is now tied for the team lead with four goals on the season. Three of his goals have come against conference foes, and his five total points in NEHC action rank tied for first on the team. To view the full NEHC weekly release, click here.

Castleton (5-9-3, 1-8-1 NEHC) returns to action on Friday for another NEHC contest against No. 11/9 Hobart. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. at Spartan Arena.
