Bloomer Named NEHC Rookie of the Week

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – After helping lead the Castleton men's hockey team to the WSYB/Catamount Radio Invitational Championship over the weekend, freshman Matt Bloomer has been named New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Rookie of the Week, announced Monday by the conference office.

Bloomer posted a team-high four points with two goals and two assists to earn MVP honors in the tournament. He scored the game-tying goal early and delivered an assist on the game-winning goal with 11 seconds left in regulation to edge King's College, 3-2, in Friday night's tournament opener. The freshman followed that up with another two-point performance in the championship against Brockport on Saturday, highlighted by the game-tying goal that erased a three-goal deficit early in the third period.

Bloomer currently ranks third in the NEHC in scoring amongst all defensemen with three goals and four assists for seven points. This is Bloomer's first career conference honor. To view the full NEHC weekly release, click here.

Castleton (4-5-0) will stay at home to take on defending national champion and No. 7/6 Norwich University on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Spartan Arena.
