SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Castleton University men's golf team finished seventh out of 11 teams at the Elms College Blazer Invitational Monday, wrapping up the two-day tournament with a total score of 643.
The Spartans finished one stroke behind sixth-place Elms, and 14 strokes clear of eighth-place Dean. Westfield State finished first with a two-day team score of 597, followed by Springfield College (602) and Western New England (623) and Roger Williams (623).
Jacob Erwin paced Castleton, finishing T-9 after carding rounds of 76 and 77 for a tournament total of 153. Nicholas Ojala was second on the team and 19th overall with a 158 after shooting 78-80. Tripp Norris shot a season-low 76 on day two, finishing with a two-day score of 163, while Tom Kingsley posted rounds of 84-85 for a 169.
Springfield's Mike Strong and Westfield State's Ryan Koczela finished in a tie for first as each went 1-under for the tournament. Westfield State's Matteo Godek finished third, while teammate J.J. Newcombe and Roger Williams' Ryan Burrill rounded out the top five.
Castleton travels to Maine next weekend, October 6 & 7, for the USM Fall Classic.
