MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Castleton University men's golf team wrapped up play at the 36th Annual Duke Nelson Invitational hosted by Middlebury College Sunday, finishing 21st overall after placing a pair of golfers in the top-25.
Castleton posted a two-day total of 639, shooting a 331 on day one before shaving 23 strokes off for a day-two 308. With the improvement, Castleton leapfrogged Wesleyan University for 21st place. New York University took home the top spot as a team, followed by Williams College and host Middlebury.
Jacob Erwin and Nicholas Ojala finished in a tie for 22nd place with a handful of others, each carding two-day totals of 150. Erwin shot a first-round 79 before firing off an even-par round of 71 on the second day. Ojala followed up an opening-round 74 with a second-round 76. Tom Kingsley finished third for Castleton with a 167 (90-77), while Tripp Norris was fourth on the team with a 172 (88-84).
Middlebury's Jeffrey Giguere was the top individual, carding rounds of 70-72 for a 142 overall. Four others finished in a tie for second at 143.
Castleton returns to the course on Saturday morning for the Castleton Invitational hosted at Rutland Country Club. Tee times are slated for 11 a.m.
