Men's Golf Opens Play at Duke Nelson Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Castleton University men's golf's Nicholas Ojala sits tie for 12th place after the first day of competition at the 36th Annual Duke Nelson Invitational hosted at Middlebury's Ralph Mhyre Golf Course.

Ojala fired a three-over round of 74 on day one of the two-day tournament, sitting in a six way tie for 12th in the 118-man field. As a team, Castleton is just two shots back of Wesleyan University for 21st place while sitting nine shots ahead of 23rd-place UMass Dartmouth. The Spartans fired a team total of 331 on the round.

Jacob Erwin posted an eight-over round of 79 to sit in a tie for 58th place individually, while Tripp Norris shot an 88 and Tom Kingsley posted a round of 90 to open the tournament.

New York University and host Middlebury College are in a tie for the top spot as a team, as each team posted a total of 291 Saturday. Babson is in third at 293.

Western New England's Ryan Zogby and Babson's Jackson Rothwell are each tied for the top spot at -2 after posting matching rounds of 69, with three players tied behind them at -1 each.

The tournament concludes Sunday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
