JAY, Vt. – The Castleton University men's golf team claimed a first-place finish in the season-opening tournament on Saturday, converting its day-one lead into a victory at the Jay Peak Resort Golf Course.
Castleton posted a two-day team total of 641 at the 7100-yard, par-72 championship course. Nicholas Ojala topped the field with a score of 152 after shooting 76-76. Tripp Norris finished in third place and Jacob Erwin fourth with two-day scores of 157 and 159, respectively. Tom Kingsley finished the tournament with a total of 173 after shaving five strokes off his day-one score with a second-round 84.
NVU-Johnson's Austin Walters and Kaden Sweet placed second and fifth to round out the top five individuals, while SUNY Canton claimed second place as a team. NVU-Johnson finished third and Gordon College rounded out the four-team field.
Castleton returns to the links on Thursday, September 12, at the MCLA Trailblazer Invitational with opening tee times set for 11 a.m.
