WATERBURY, Vt.- The Castleton men's golf team competed in the opening round of the 2018 North Atlantic Conference Championship on Saturday under chilly conditions at the Country Club of Vermont in Waterbury.
The Spartans are tentatively in fourth place after most of the opening round has been completed, though two schools were unable to finish due to darkness. Castleton posted a score of 332 on day one, sitting 14 shots behind third-place SUNY-Delhi. Husson (307) leads the way, while Salem State is in second place after the first day (311).
Nicholas Ojala led the way with a team-best round of 78, while Jacob Erwin fired an opening-round 84. Jordan Ayer and Tripp Norris each carded rounds of 85, while Caleb Fizer shot a 98 for the Spartans.
Husson's Gavin Dugas led all scorers with an even-par 72, while teammate Taylor Morang and Salem State's Eric Powers and Justin Serowik were Dugas's closest competitors posting scores of 74.
The second and final round of the NAC Golf Championship will get underway on Sunday at 9:30am.
