GORHAM, Maine – The Castleton men's golf team sits in eighth place after one day of competition, sitting seven strokes back from the University of Maine at Farmington at the University of Southern Maine Fall Classic at Gorham Country Club.
The Spartans posted a team score of 339 on day one, sitting narrowly behind UMF (332). Bowdoin College leads the team scoring at 306, while UMass-Dartmouth (308) and USM (310) round out the top three.
Nicholas Ojala leads Castleton with a three-over 74, sitting in third-place overall after the first day of play. Jordan Ayer posted a round of 83, sitting second on the Spartans and 24th overall. Tripp Norris (89) and Brandon Gay (93) rounded out the Spartans' competitors.
Bowdoin's Tom Dunleavy and USM's Parker Sanderson are tied for first place after the first day, each firing off rounds of 73 to sit one stroke ahead of Ojala, Dylan Andrews (New England College) and Cameron Letourneau (St. Joseph's).
Round two begins Monday morning at 10 a.m. as play concludes at Gorham Country Club.
