PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Castleton University men's golf team hit the links for a mid-week round at the MCLA Invitational on Thursday morning, taking on the Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The Spartans finished fifth in a field of 10 teams, shooting a 328 as a team.
Jacob Erwin led the way for Castleton, carding a five-over round of 77 to claim fourth place overall. Nicholas Ojala was right on his heels, firing a six-over 78 to finish tied for fifth. Jordon Ayer shot an 85 on the day to finish third on the team and tied for 27th overall, while Tripp Norris (88) and Caleb Fizer (90) rounded out the Spartans' competitors.
Westfield State claimed the team title, finishing with a total score of 309, while Roger Williams University (314) and Elms College (319) finished second and third, respectively. Eastern Nazarene's Michael Dietz claimed the individual crown with the only sub-par round in the field as he posted a one-under score of 71.
The Spartans are back on the course this weekend as they travel to Middlebury for the Duke Nelson Invitational at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course. Saturday's tee time is slated for 1 p.m., while Sunday's action will begin at 9 a.m.
