CASTLETON, Vt. – The fall 2018 competition schedule for the Castleton University golf team has been finalized, featuring six tournaments from Labor Day weekend through the middle of October.
For the fourth straight year, Castleton opens the season with the Northern Vermont-Johnson Invitational, to be held Friday, August 31, at Stowe Country Club in Stowe, Vt. The Spartans are the defending team champion, while junior Jordan Ayer is expected to return to defend his individual title at the event.
In another single-day event, Castleton will compete at the Trailblazer Invitational Thursday, Sept. 13, hosted by MCLA at Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield, Mass. That weekend, the Spartans will travel to Middlebury, Vt., for the Duke Nelson Invitational Friday and Saturday, Sept. 15-16, hosted by Middlebury College at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course.
Once again, the Spartans will host the Castleton Invitational at Rutland Country Club in Rutland, Vt., Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22-23. Defending champion SUNY Cobleskill will return this season, with Elms, Gordon, NVU-Johnson, and Western Connecticut State also scheduled to compete in this year's tournament.
Castleton heads to Gorham, Maine, for the Southern Maine Fall Classic Sunday and Monday, Oct. 7-8, at Gorham Country Club. The Spartans will wrap up the season at the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship, hosted by NVU-Johnson at the Country Club of Vermont in Waterbury, Vt. Castleton is an affiliate member of the NAC in men's golf and will compete in that conference championship Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13-14.
Brian Hill enters his fourth season as head coach of the Castleton golf team. Castleton will be one of 11 teams competing at the 2018 NAC Championships along with SUNY Canton, SUNY Delhi, Maine-Farmington, Husson, NVU-Johnson, Maine Maritime, MCLA, Salem State, Maine-Presque Isle, and Thomas.
