BREWSTER, Mass. – The Castleton University men's golf team improved its single-round score by seven strokes, finishing in 18th place as the 2017 NEIGA Division III Championship concluded Monday on the Starboard Course of The Captains Golf Club.
Thomas Kingsley ended the tournament as Castleton's top finisher for the first time this season, shooting 82 (+10) to finish the day in a tie for 54th place at 163 (+19). Jon Benson ended up one stroke behind Kingsley in a tie for 61st place at 164 (+20) after shooting 83 (+11) in the second round.
Darwin Norris shot the Spartans' best round of the day with a 79 (+7), moving up into a tie for 70th place with a two-round total of 166 (+22). Jordan Ayer shot 88 (+16) to finish in 89th place at 178, and Michael Plaisance shot 91 (+19) for a 36-hole total of 185 and a spot in 91st place.
As a team, Castleton posted a score of 332 (+44) for a two-day total of 671 (+95), nine strokes ahead of the University of New England. Husson University won the team title by 11 strokes, with the Eagles' Daulton Wickenden earning medalist honors with a one-stroke victory.
The tournament was the final one in 2017 for the Castleton golf team.
