LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – In the one round of stroke play scheduled for the weekend, the Castleton University men's golf team finished in fourth place at the Middlebury Fall Classic Saturday at the Lake Placid Club.
Jacob Erwin led the Spartans, finishing in a tie for fourth place with a score of 74 (+2). Jordan Ayer was the next Castleton golfer in the individual standings, finishing in 18th place with an 18-hole score of 82 (+10).
Thomas Kingsley ended up in a tie for 19th place at 83 (+11), just ahead of teammates Jon Benson and Justin Brown, who finished in a tie for 21st place at 85 (+13). Caleb Fizer also competed for the Spartans, finishing in 24th place.
As a team, Castleton combined for a score of 324 (+36) to finish in fourth place. Williams finished first at 295 (+7), nine strokes in front of host Middlebury. The Spartans lost to the Ephs in the afternoon match play semifinals, 5.5-0.5.
Castleton will face Skidmore in the third place contest, following match play format, Sunday morning, Sept. 10.
