BREWSTER, Mass. – The Castleton men's golf team recorded a 10th place finish at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship on Monday at The Captains Course in Brewster, Mass.
Zach Temple finished tied for a share of overall lead before falling in a one-hole playoff on a day in which birdies were hard to come by. The senior capped his season with a two-day total of 148, carding rounds of 73 (+1) and 75 (+3) to finish in a deadlock for co-medalist honors with Babson's Chris Bornhorst, who shot a 75 on day one and a 73 on day two. With his top finish, Temple lands a spot on the NEIGA All-New England team for the second-straight season.
Castleton shot a two-day total of 646, posting back-to-back rounds of 323 as a team. The consistency was not enough to move up from its seventh-place spot entering the day, as 13 of the 20 teams improved upon their day-one scores.
Luke Salerno finished in a tie for sixth place on the weekend, posting rounds of 77 (+5) and 75 (+3) to total 152 strokes at the tournament. The two-day total was the best of his season, as he finished just eight strokes over par en route to All-New England honors of his own. Jon Benson was third on the Spartan leaderboard, carding rounds of 79 (+7) and 82 (+10), while Jordan Ayer rounded out the scoring with rounds of 94 (+22) and 91 (+19).
Babson collected the Division III title, shooting a two-day total of 617, while Husson finished seven strokes back with a total of 624. Nichols (633), Tufts (635) and Western New England (635) rounded out the top five.
