CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton men's golf team will compete in the 33rd Annual Duke Nelson Invitational, hosted by Middlebury, this Saturday and Sunday just one week after taking fifth place in the Middlebury Fall Classic.
Senior Zach Temple has led Castleton this season, as he has posted an average round of 78—including individual rounds of 73 and 75. Last year at this course, Temple posted a scoring average of 83.5 in a tough field.
Luke Salerno has been a strong number two for Castleton, finishing just behind Temple with a scoring average of 80 this year. Salerno finished fourth on the team at this same event a season ago, shooting a two-day total of 173.
Newcomers Jacob Erwin and Jordan Ayer have been strong for Castleton in their first two meets, as Erwin took home Rookie of the Week honors in week one and has a scoring average of 81.67 on the season. Ayer placed fourth on the team a week ago, posting a two-day total of 166 to bring his season scoring average to a total of 84.67.
Williams took the top spot in the 2015 Duke Nelson Invitational, while Babson placed second. Rensselaer finished third, while Salem St. finished fourth overall. Three teams tied for the fifth-place spot.
