Spartans in Fifth Place After Day One at Middlebury Fall Classic

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Castleton men's golf team sits in fifth place out of six teams after day one of competition at a tough Middlebury Fall Classic.

Zach Temple paced the Spartans on day one, shooting a three-over-par 75 on the 7,100-yard Lake Placid Club Links Course. Luke Salerno was just one shot off of Temple's pace, shooting a 76. Jon Benson and Jordan Ayer each entered the clubhouse with scores of 84, while Jacob Erwin rounded out the day for Castleton with an 85. The Spartans, as a team, shot 319 on the day.

Middlebury posted the lowest team score of the day, with a 296, while Skidmore, Rensselaer, and New York University all finished ahead of Castleton on day one. Clarkson rounds out the event with a sixth place spot heading into Sunday's round.
