Men's Golf Picked Third in NAC Preseason Coaches' Poll

CASTLETON, Vt. – Coming off of a third-place finish in last year's North Atlantic Conference Championship, the Castleton men's golf team was picked third in the 2016 Preseason Coaches' Poll.

The Spartans received 62 points in the poll that is voted on by each head coach in the NAC, including one first-place vote. Husson was chosen as the preseason favorite, receiving 79 points and seven first-place votes. Salem St. earned the second spot, tallying 68 points. Maine Maritime received the final first-place vote, placing fourth with 52 total points, while UMaine-Farmington, MCLA, Johnson St., UMaine-Presque Isle and Green Mountain rounded out the five-through-nine spots.

Castleton hopes to stay near the top of the NAC in 2016, as Brian Hill is back at the helm of the Spartans for his second year. Zach Temple returns following a season in which he posted a scoring average of 76.0 and a low round of 69 to earn First Team All-NAC honors. Luke Salerno is also back for Castleton after averaging a 83.8 strokes per round in his first season in 2015. The Spartans also bring in seven freshmen this season as they begin their chase for a NAC title today at Rocky Ridge C.C.
